In order to become the owner of a snack bar with her boyfriend, Lorna, a young Albanian woman living in Belgium, becomes an accomplice to a diabolical plan devised by mobster Fabio. Fabio has orchestrated a sham marriage between her and Claudy. The marriage allows her to obtain Belgian citizenship and then marry a Russian Mafioso willing to pay a lot of money to acquire the same quickly. However, for this second marriage to be possible, Fabio plans to kill Claudy. Will Lorna keep silent?
Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne are two of the most acclaimed film directors in contemporary European cinema. They can also be called Cannes Film Festival favourites with two Golden Palms for Best film Rosetta (1999) and The Child (2005). Oliver Gourmet acted in The Child but also Dardenne’s The Son that gave Gourmet the “Best Actor Award in Cannes 2002. Dardenne also cast Gourmet in Lorna’s Silence but as the film title informs us, this film is mostly about Lorna (Arta Dobroshi) – or, more accurately, her silence. Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne won the Best Screenplay with Lorna’s Silence and Kaunas International Film Festival is proud to present a Cannes winner for the second year in a row. The screening of Lorna’s Silence is only going to take place in Kaunas. Cineastes from all over Lithuania, you are hereby informed! Don’t miss this film at the Kaunas International Film Festival in this year’s “Identity” section.
