Li Ahh and Li Ohm grow up motherless. Their father Sui is a workaholic who spends most of his time mending broken mannequins. Sui is an outsider to the two boys, the only legacy left by the woman he loved, or still loves. While he shuts himself out from the world, the two brothers grow up with all the freedom of neglected children. They roam the streets; get into fights and other trouble in school. Later on, Sui realizes that he loves his children and he's going to do something about it before it's too late.
It is a tradition in some parts of the world to wear flowers for Mother's Day. Wearing a pink or red flower represented that your mother is still alive. Wearing a white flower symbolizes that your mother is no longer living. Flower in the pocket was initially written based on this custom. The two protagonists in Flower in the pocket do not know what colour of flowers they should be wearing. They grow up without knowing what it's like to have a mother at home. When we are far away from home, we feel homesick sometimes. We miss the comfort of home but for these two boys, they hardly know what a home is all about.
Awards:
Jury prize (Lotus du Jury), 10th Deauville Asian Film Festival 2008
Tiger Award, Rotterdam International Film Festival, 2008.
New Current Award, 12th Pusan International Film Festival 2007
KNN Audience Award, 12th Pusan International Film Festival 2007
