The second Kaunas International Film Festival (KIFF) in their unique program “Music which is changing the world“ will present world-renowned films about really well-known musicians and music phenomena. The Berlin International Film Festival 2008 is also opening with a film about the legendary group The Rolling Stones, the best film about the time of the ABBA obsession, the Swedish foursome; and of course Damon Albarn's mystical project Gorillaz and the film Bananaz, which reveals the origin of this group.
Also, Kaunas will be the international premiere of the Danish documentary film Roskilde about the music festival of the same name, which is well known to the Lithuanian audience. A few summer days with music, sprees, rain and heat – sounds familiar, doesn’t it?A film can tell you many new things about music,” - says KIFF program manager Tomas Tengmark. “This is why we are continuing last year’s tradition of presenting films about music in Lithuania in a separate program. The films will lift the audience into huge concert halls, the summer festival’s horizons and into intimate places of creation, studios, and even backstage.”
Martin Scorsese’s documentary film Shine a light is not only a Rolling Stones’ concert, filmed at the New York Beacon Theatre. It is two legends – film and music – meeting. This creation will be particularly appreciated, much like another film in the festival – in Lasse Halstrom’s 1977 ABBA. This film is about the four very famous compatriots who gave all the world hope, and this film helped the Swedish director to become internationally known. It is said, that a huge number of people in Lithuania wanted to see this film in the ’80s.
The British film Bananaz will present a unique partnership of the former leader of the British group “Blur”, Damon Albarn, and artist Jamie Hewlett. It is an inspiring, uncensored, and carefree story about what can be done when creative minds work together.
Sonic Youth. White nights records the American alternative rock band’s concert and backstage moments. The Estonian film Georg tells us about the most famous Estonian opera soloist Georg Otso, whose voice was known throughout the former Soviet Union. In this film you can also understand the strange coincidences that led Georg Otsoin into the music world and recognition which was, sadly, only on one side of Iron Curtain. Music Guerrillas observes how rock bands fight against the Belarusian regime. In the film we will see Liavonas Volskis, leader of the band N.R.M., who is known to Lithuanians. Pure music and visual sprees will attract you to the film Full Pull, which presents Swedish audiovisual art experiments.
