This weekend, Kaunas city will take the last breath of independent film. Kaunas International Film Festival, which has been organised for three years now, has prepared a bouquet of deep and convincing stories for its last weekend in Kaunas. Famous filmmakers and artists will meet the audience on Saturday as well as on Sunday.

Monday, October 12, the cosy rattle and the programme of films already appreciated by the visitors of Kaunas Film Festival will move to “Pasaka” film theatre in the old town of Vilnius.

This weekend, cineastes and lovers of fine art will have an opportunity to see the emotional and passionate story of the genial painter in the film Klimt, and the dramatic fate of the artist from the neighbouring Latvia in the film Klucis. The Deconstruction of an Artist. It is the story of the 20th century deconstructivist artist that shows the infinite human faith in the path he has chosen, breaks the myths of the socialist society, and allows to see the tragedy of the Stalinist repressions eye to eye.

Colourful and versatile All the Muses programme section will also provide an opportunity to visit the unique screenings of Bouzkachi: The Chant of the Steppes. The viewers of the story balancing between a documentary and a fairy tale about two men who have fallen in love with the same woman will meet Jacques Debs, the author of the film, and Stasys Eidrigevičius, world famous Lithuanian painter and one of the main actors of the film. The guests of the festival will wait for the viewers in the screenings of the film in “Romuva” film theatre October 10 and 11, and in “Pasaka” theatre in Vilnius on Monday.

Singer Youssou N’Dour will invite the viewers to his world of music with the words “I Bring What I Love” as well as by providing evidence that the power of creativity if boundless: it destroys the walls between different cultures and faiths, and sometimes helps to put the spotlight on the most painful issues.

Valkyrie Limited is a gripping documentary about mysterious and often mystified underbelly of staging an opera. Many don’t even imagine how opera is born and don’t realise the fragility of the line between the flawless stage performance and the subconsciousness of the author which covers much more than mere sounds of music. The Latvian documentary draws a portrait of an opera director – a phenomenal personality in terms of his creative flight and growing ranks of fans who fancy unique development of different characters, persuasive stories and gripping music compositions.

Kaunas Film Festival’s programme section Wide Angle invites to see the drama titled Go Get Some Rosemary telling about a light-head father of two boys who finds himself in a crossroads of life. The story is full of comic elements and depicts an ambiguous situation of the 34-year-old man looking for an answer to the question whether he should be a father or a friend to his children?

Next week, the authors of the film Go Get Some Rosemary – brothers Joshua and Benny Safdie from the USA – will come straight from New York to meet the viewers in “Pasaka” film theatre in Vilnius.

The festival offers a unique opportunity to visit its last films in Kaunas in the revived “Romuva” film theatre and launches its film programme in Vilnius.
