October 1-18, Kaunas International Film Festival will infuse two exclusive Vilnius and Kaunas movie theatres with magic film spirit. In its home city, after a one year break, the festival will return to the legendary “Romuva“ cinema, which has been closed to the city residents most of the time. Meanwhile in the capital, the festival films will be screened October 12-18 in the new “Pasaka“ cinema.

The 3rd Kaunas International Film Festival has more and more visitors and fans each year, and this autumn it will offer four programmes consisting of more than thirty films. The cineastes will be offered a selection of movies made by authors from all over the world, a collection of films dedicated to music, and an inspiring programme “All the Muses” which will include pictures about arts. The audience will have a unique opportunity to meet and talk with the authors – filmmakers, artists and composers.

“Kaunas International Film Festival grows each year and comes back to its spectators not only bigger in volume, but also more exciting and full of novelties. This year, the span of the festival is record breaking – it will last almost three weeks. We hope that all viewers will be able to see the films of their choice,” said Ilona Jurkonytė, the director of the Kaunas International Film Festival.

The programme “All the Muses” will consist of films directly reflecting the world of art. They will be the answers to the questions about the purpose of art, about the sweets and the bitters of the artists, and about the relationship of film with other visual arts.

The unique muse of music has to be noted as her role in the world of cinema is exclusively important. The special programme “Music Moves the World” has already become the tradition of the festival. This year, special attention will be given to the authors of the film scores: the audience will be invited to meet film composers, join discussions and special film screenings.

“If you asked our devoted spectators in Vilnius and Kaunas, what is special about the films of the festival, you would hear many different answers. Some see our films as a way of escaping reality for a moment; some are fascinated by aesthetical images, while others choose films that speak of relevant issues – music, art, travelling, adaptation, growing, and dreams. But each and everyone would acknowledge that our films are different because they give answers to questions,” said Ilona Jurkonytė, the director of the Kaunas International Film Festival. “Everyone has a month to prepare a question before the festival starts and then look for the answer to that question in our films.”

Programme of the festival and information about the tickets will be announced shortly. Kaunas International Film Festival will take place in “Romuva” theatre, Kaunas, October 1-11, and in “Pasaka” theatre, Vilnius, October 12-18.
