The film is the continuation of cinematographic works by director Deimantas Narkevičius, exploring various aspects of life in Soviet Lithuania. “Disappearance of a Tribe” is a collage of personal photographs representing the history of one family. The image is composed of black and white pictures documenting moments in the life of director’s father. But the autobiographical narrative is not emphasised. On the contrary, the aim is to find collective, universal things in the ordinary life of that time, to revive the common experience of the socialist era and to reflect Lithuanian identity. The viewer gets the opportunity to see the images on the screen from his own perspective and relate them with personal experience. This film also documents the history of photography, as it reveals the traditions of soviet-era photography in Lithuania.
