Kaunas International Film Festival and “Good Music Live” have brought together their energy and ideas to fill the autumn Kaunas with world music. We invite you to see the films of the KIFF programme section “Music Moves the World” and to listen to Baba Sissoko from Mali in a concert that will take place October 6, 7 p. m., in the culture venue “Gargaras” (Raudondvario pl. 101, Kaunas). Let us experience good music through film and film through music.

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Baba Sissoko is a successor of authentic Malian music tradition in combination with jazz, blues and rock experiments. Also known as a one man orchestra, Baba Sissoko has mastered over seven instruments. He has played with Habib Koite, Youssou N‘Dour and other African stars of music and is reputed to be one of the top masters of traditional West African Tamani drum. Baba Sissoko’s musical style is hard to define as he is always open to experiment, exploration and creativity. Baba Sissoko is also a jeli – a West African wandering musician, storyteller and poet. The tradition of jeli is known from the age of prosperity of the Mali Empire in the 14th century when bards kept company and even gave council to the emperors. Even the most fastidious listeners will be amazed by Baba Sissoko’s performance as it will provide a unique opportunity to better understand the genre of world music which is very popular in Europe and the US. Baba Sissoko was invited to Kaunas International Film Festival by the non-profit organisation “Good Music Live” which has been booking world music and blues bands for five years now.
