For the second year in a row, the viewers of Kaunas International Film Festival will be entitled to vote for and award the film that they like best. This is the continuing cooperation between the Festival and the quality film channel Silver managed by Turner Broadcasting System. The film of the viewer's choice will be presented with the Silver Audience Award Cup and receive free marketing on the channels Silver and Star! in the Baltics.

Silver is a channel for cineastes which puts the spotlight on much talked about and critically acclaimed films produced outside the Hollywood studios. Focusing on contemporary film and its creators‚ Silver continuously highlights new directors‚ actors and film genres‚ giving the viewers a feeling of a film festival in their living room. In Lithuania, Silver channel is available through local cable and digital TV providers. Last year the award went to Heartbeats by the Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan screened at the Kaunas Film Festival.

“We are happy about the collaboration which began a year ago and will continue to give the Audience Award with Silver. The Festival shares the values of Silver in supporting film culture and promoting discussion. The Silver Cup is not merely a sign of audience approval. By presenting the award we also make a contribution to the dissemination of good films – thus the award becomes a bridge between the filmmakers and their viewers”, said The Festival’s director Ilona Jurkonytė.

“We are very happy to present the audience award at the Kaunas International Film Festival. Silver proudly supports the film culture by putting the spotlight on the films produced outside of the Hollywood studios. With this award we are able to engage our viewers and give them a voice”, says Lenny Pettersson, Senior Marketing Manager at Silver.

The audience of Kaunas Film Festival will have an opportunity to vote for the films during film screenings by filling in voting ballots. Voting will also be available through the Festival’s website www.kinofestivalis.lt.

The 5th Kaunas International Film Festival will take place September 27 – October 9 in Kaunas and Vilnius. The Festival will visit Panevėžys film theatre “Garsas” on October 10–13 and Nida film theatre “Agila" on October 13–16. More information visit www.kinofestivalis.lt.
