About the director:

Born in 1983 in Gyumri, Armenia, Aik Karapetian grew up in Latvia. Received his bachelor’s degree in art history at the Art Academy of Latvia (Riga), and his master’s degree in audiovisual art at the Latvian Academy of Culture (Riga).

Karapetjan was first noticed as a director in 2007, when his short film “Disgust” (Riebums, 2007) was deemed the best student film in the national film festival “Lielais Kristaps”. In 2009, he worked on the jury of “Lielais Kristaps” and finished the French film school ESEC (Paris). In 2011, Karapetian debuted as director of Gioachino Rossini‘s “The Barber of Seville” at the Latvian National Opera, to raving reviews from both the public and critics alike. “People Out There” is a debut feature film of this young yet acclaimed director.
