Special screenings of Hungarian film “Bibliothèque Pascal“ at Skalvija Cinema Center

Kaunas International Film Festival and the embassy of Hungary are proud to present a film “Bibliothèque Pascal“ by an acclaimed director, screenwriter and actor Szabolcs Hajdú on August 10th, Friday, at 19.00 at Skalvija Cinema Center.

According to the deputy ambassador of Hungary Zsófia Barkaszi, “the film “Bibliothèque Pascal” is presented in Skalvija Cinema Center in the framework of the traditional co-operation of Kaunas International Film Festival and the Embassy of Hungary. The director, Szabolcs Hajdu, is one of the most talented representative of the young Hungarian film-makers' generation, the winner of various Hungarian and international film awards, whose name is already known among the Lithuanian public. His often surrealistic movies make us face very realistic problems of our days, just like this colourful story”.

Forced to look for a better life abroad, Mona Paparu (Orsolya Török-Illyés), a Romanian of Hungarian origin, has to put her three-year-old daughter in the care of aunt, a fortune-teller. Unfortunately, the girl is taken into custody by a child protection agency. When Mona returns home, she has to give and account to the agency on how she spent a year abroad. The woman begins the confession of her travels, love and crime that takes the viewer to the colourful nightlife of Liverpool and the mysterious club called “Bibliothèque Pascal”.

Accompanied by an enchanting soundtrack, dreamy camera and special effects, the story of a lonely Eastern European mother turns into a visual modern tale of a dangerous pursuit of happiness. Szabolcs Hajdú‘s 5th feature film, received the main Golden Reel award at Hungarian film week in 2010 and a special C.I.C.A.E. award at International Sarajevo Film Festival (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The film was highly evaluated by the Kaunas IFF audience, too.

Screening times at Skalvija Cinema Center: August 11th - 8:10 PM., 12th – 4 PM, 14th – 4:30 PM, 17th - 4:30 PM, 18th – 8:20 PM. Film will be shown with English subtitles.
